BIM-compliant platform planning made easy

The engineering firm SPETTMANN + KAHR, which is working in traffic route planning, was looking for a practicable solution for BIM-compliant platform planning, with which the meeting of line structures and rising structures could be solved in terms of planning. This is possible with the routing software from ProVI, as SPETTMANN + KAHR Managing Director Holger Lagemann explains: “ProVI is the only program in platform planning that can also utilize axle data. That is a real unique selling point.”

Accelerated processes and more efficiency

The database-supported consistency of the planning data and the coordination of the modules with each other also convinced the SPETTMANN + KAHR planning office. Changes made at one point in the model are directly adjusted and taken into account at other points. “This has accelerated our processes. That’s exactly what I was looking for – a practical solution that would enable my employees to plan more efficiently and faster,” says Lagemann. This is one of the reasons why ProVI’s routing software is now used primarily in projects for Deutsche Bahn – for traffic route planning, for platform planning, and also for civil engineering and sewer construction.

From planning to execution in one hand

SPETTMANN + KAHR also relied on ProVI in a current project. The engineering firm was commissioned with the planning of the track rehabilitation between Oldenburg and Rastede. This project not only included track and civil engineering, cable civil engineering and drainage planning, but also, among other things, the renewal of bridges or the construction of noise barriers. The various trades and construction phases had to be taken into account.

SPETTMANN + KAHR received the data for planning the infrastructure project in ProVI format, and after further processing and planning, the engineering firm handed over the files, also in ProVI, to the construction company Eiffage for execution.

“With this project, we had a really tight schedule between our commissioning in January and the first construction phase, which was already underway in March. But we managed it well in the end – of course also with great help from ProVI Support,” reports Holger Lagemann. The consistency of the information from planning to execution was of great benefit to the engineering firm, as the managing director explains: “We were able to transfer the project directly into ProVI. If we had started in another program system, we wouldn’t have been able to do it in time. But thanks to ProVI, we were able to continue working directly with the data and there were no information losses or errors during the import. For construction, the transfer in ProVI is also an advantage, because all data is available digitally and can be transferred directly to the construction machines.”

SPETTMANN + KAHR also plans to work with ProVI in the future.
